URBAN PASTOR - BILL LESLIE AWARD NOMINATIONS

Nominate the next candidate for the:  Dr. William H. Leslie Award  "Urban Pastor - Bill Leslie Award" Presentation of Award in Spring 2012 (Date: TBD)

Dr. William H. Leslie was Executive Associate at Goodcity f/k/a Midwest Leadership Foundation and Senior Pastor of LaSalle Street Church.  He led that congregation for 28 years.  Through years of struggling to meet the needs of Chicago's people, the church emerged as a model for city ministry.  Bill Leslie achieved a national reputation for helping to establish urban lay ministries.  Some of those set by LaSalle Street Church or in partnership with other churches, include the Center for Life Skills, the Cabrini Green Legal Aid Clinic, LaSalle Young Life Creative Learning Experience (CYCLE), LaSalle Senior Center, and a $12 million cooperatively owned, racially mixed housing complex.

At Goodcity, Bill was in charge of church and pastoral relations.  500 pastors received his quarterly Beggar's Exchange and 100+ pastors were in 12 support groups led by Bill.  He created CityLINC which today has placed more than 16,000 volunteers in Chicago urban ministry.

Bill Leslie died suddenly in 1994. Goodcity invites you to nominate an individual or individuals who exemplifies the urban and reconciliation ministry for which Dr. Leslie was known.  In addition to the honor of the award, the recipient will receive an unrestricted gift of $2,000.  Application Deadline is September 1, 2011.  Mail your application to: Goodcity NFP, 5049 W. Harrison, Chicago, IL. 60644; Attention: Dr. Ileen Kelly. or email to: ikelly@goodcitychicago.org by 3 p.m. (CST)

VISION TRIPS

Vision trips are designed to allow us to share with you our vision in action. We begin at Goodcity with an introduction to our services and staff. From there, we take you into the community to see firsthand some of our current and alumni community programs. As you meet the leaders engaged in their work, you will better understand the realization of our vision. These trips take on average 3-4 hours and can be tailored to meet your scheduling needs. To sign up or to schedule your own vision trip, please contact Mike Ivers at Goodcity (773-473-4790 ×306).
